GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The 2023 Carol Award winners were announced at the end of August at the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) gala. Two Kregel titles were named winners among eleven fiction categories.

The Songs that Could Have Been (Amanda Wen) was the winner in Contemporary. Authors in the Christian historical fiction genre have declared Wen's second book in her Sedgwick County Chronicles series as "fresh," "brilliant," "intricately crafted," and "timeless."

While Mortals Sleep (Janyre Tromp) was the winner in Novella. Part of the Christmas novella collection O Little Town, While Mortals Sleep is a Michigan-based historical fiction story set in World War II USA.

The Carol Awards, hosted by ACFW, recognize the best Christian fiction published by traditional publishing houses in the previous calendar year.

The winners were announced during the gala awards dinner in St. Louis as part of ACFW's annual conference on August 26. A complete list of winners can be found on their website.
