    No Ordinary Fairy Tale

Forget everything you think you know about faeries. . . . Creatures full of magic and whimsy? Not in the Oakenwyld. Not anymore.

Long ago the faeries of the great Oak mysteriously lost their magic. Robbed of their powers, they have become selfish and dull-witted. Now their numbers are dwindling and their very survival is at stake.

Only one young faery-Knife-is determined to find out where her people's magic has gone and try to get it back. Unlike her sisters, Knife is fierce and independent. She's not afraid of anything-not the vicious crows, the strict Faery Queen, or the fascinating humans living nearby. But when Knife disobeys the Faery Queen and befriends a human named Paul, her quest becomes more dangerous than she ever anticipated...

Knife is a gripping tale of lost magic, high adventure, and surprising friendship in which the fate of an entire realm rests on the shoulders of one brave faery rebel.
Book One of the No Ordinary Fairy Tale series. Previously published in the US under the title Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter.
    Author: R. J. Anderson
    R. J. (Rebecca) Anderson isn't pretending she's not female, she just thinks initials look writerly. The daughter of a Bible teacher who read Tolkien and Lewis aloud to his children, she grew up daydreaming about Narnia and Middle-Earth, watching DOCTOR WHO from behind the sofa, and hanging out in her brothers' comic book shop. Now she writes novels about knife-wielding faeries, weird science, and the numinous in the modern world.

Her debut novel KNIFE, the story of a fierce young faery who fights to save her dying people, was longlisted for the Carnegie Award in 2009 and became a UK bestseller; it was followed by two sequels, REBEL (2010) and ARROW (2011), and a companion series about the piskeys of Cornwall (SWIFT and NOMAD). Her teen thriller ULTRAVIOLET (2011) was shortlisted for the 2012 Andre Norton (Nebula) award, and was followed by a companion novel, QUICKSILVER (2013). Her newest book is the magical mystery-adventure A POCKET FULL OF MURDER (Orchard Books, Jan. 2016).
