Three Kregel Titles Named 2025 Golden Scroll Award Winners, One Wins Book of the Year

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — On Sunday, August 10, the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association announced the winners of the 17th annual Golden Scroll Awards and the 6th annual Christian Market Book Awards. Three Kregel titles are winners.

Sacred Refuge: Finding Unexpected Shelter in Your Crisis by Lynne Rienstra was awarded the Golden Scroll Book of the Year. Rienstra invites readers to join the sisterhood of women—both biblical and present-day—who have stared in the face of unimaginable challenges, yet found Christ to be their enduring refuge.

Coal Black Lies: An Appalachian Novel by Cindy K. Sproles placed second for Historical Novel of the Year. Ever since coal miner Joshua Morgan lost his young daughter to the ironfisted Barton family and the Company Store, he has wrestled with forgiveness and justice. When a sweet but slow-witted girl appears on his doorstep, Joshua is overwhelmed with a desire to protect her, and an unbidden need for vengeance.

Praying Personalities: Finding Your Natural Prayer Style by Janet Holm McHenry is an honorable mention for Christian Living Book of the Year and placed third for Christian Market Nonfiction Book of the Year. McHenry has studied prayer extensively, and the one thing she knows for sure is that there’s no one-size-fits-all way to pray.
