GRAND RAPIDS, MI On Friday, July 4, the Advanced Writers & Speakers Association announced the finalists for the 17th Annual Golden Scroll Awards and the 6th Annual Christian Market Book Awards. Four Kregel titles are finalists.
Harriet Hurry-Up and the Oh-So-Slow Day! by Allia Zobel Nolan, illustrated by Alexandra Colombo, is a Golden Scroll Award finalist in the children's category. With rhymed text and colorful illustrations, this picture book is the perfect way to teach children ages four to seven about patience.
Coal Black Lies by Cindy K. Sproles is a finalist in the fiction category. When coal miner Joshua Morgan loses his young daughter to the ironfisted Barton family and the Company Store, he wrestles with forgiveness and justice. So when a sweet but slow-witted girl appears on his doorstep, Joshua is overwhelmed with a desire to protect her, and an unbidden need for vengeance.
Praying Personalities by Janet Holm McHenry is a finalist in the nonfiction category for both the Golden Scroll Awards and the Christian Market Book Awards. McHenry has studied prayer extensively, and the one thing she knows for sure is that there's no one-size-fits-all way to pray. By discovering your unique prayer style, staying in touch with God throughout the day becomes all the more joyful.
Sacred Refuge by Lynne Rienstra is a finalist in the nonfiction category. When crisis hits, our instinct is to retreat and take cover. But often our hiding places are keeping us from the soul-safe space we belong. Join a sacred sisterhood and step out of hiding and into Christ's embrace.
